Cunningham entered the stockbroking industry in the 1990's and quickly involved in HotCopper, which is the oldest and largest independent, fee-free trading forum for [[Australian Securities Exchange]] (ASX) stock market investors. He would eventually list HotCopper on the ASX and purchase stock from the owner and founder Ron Gully. Cunningham co-founded the broking firm CPS Capital alongside [[Jason Peterson]] and Paul Sharbanee. He additionally founded Complii FinTech Solutions in 2007, a Compliance and risk management software for equity capital markets. == Early life and education ==
Cunningham was born in [[Perth]], [[Western Australia]]. He attended Coolbinia Primary School followed by a stint at [[Mount Lawley Senior High School]], before his way to [[Trinity College, Perth|Trinity College]] in Perth, where he would later graduate in 1986. His Tertiary education consisted of a Bachelor of Commerce, and later on he Graduated with Diploma of Applied Geology and Diploma of Applied Finance. Cunningham started his career with DJ Carmichael in the 1990s. He later acquired a stake in the HotCopper forum in 1995, where he became an active moderator. He floated HotCopper during the dotcom boom in 1999, which resulted in substantial investor profits following a takeover by Melbourne-based Bourse Data.<ref name="arat"></ref>

In 2004, Cunningham facilitated a deal to sell HotCopper to Perth-based Report Card Pty Ltd. Meanwhile, Cunningham co-founded CPS Capital in 2001, where his leadership extended until February 2022 before he moved to Barclay Wells and subsequently RM Capital. <ref name="zetegn"></ref><ref name="amist"></ref><ref name="sidst"></ref>

In 2007, Cunningham co-founded Complii, a company designed to address the complex compliance, risk management, and operational needs of Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) holders. Cunningham was involved in the tennis community in Western Australia. He was a life member and a former president of the [[University of Western Australia|UWA]] Tennis Club, where he played a role in funding and developing new facilities. His efforts helped raise $1.2 million for the club's new clubhouse, car park, and six clay courts between 2001 and 2003.<ref name="and"></ref><ref name="sidst"></ref>

He was also a director of Tennis West and continued to play at a high level in various competitions. His efforts were instrumental in the resurrection and success of the UWA Tennis Club's operations.<ref name="arat"></ref>

== Death ==
Cunningham passed away on April 21, 2024 at the age of 55, in Perth’s southern suburbs. Police reported his death as not suspicious.<ref name="sidst"></ref>
