Bourne was Principal Research Officer, for the Minister for Environment and Heritage in Queensland Parliament, from 1989 to 1995.
Bourne served as Promotion and Development Officer since 2001 for Orienteering Queensland Inc. She organized the Orienteer of the Year Event in multiple years, from 2012, to 2021. Bourne's worked on the Queensland Middle Distance Championships in 2013 and obtained Level Three Controller certification around 2004.
